- Gottfried Silbermann built the organ of the Domkirche in Freiberg in the years 1710-1714. Dom organist Elias Lindner designed the disposition. The wood carvings are by Johann Adam Georgi from Freiberg, while the organ was painted by Johann Christian Burzaus. On August 13 and 14, 1714 it was approved after examination by Johann Kuhnau, Thomascantor in Leipzig. It was put into operation on August 20.
- In 1869 the instrument was tuned in a equal temperament. This was undone during a restoration by the company Jehmlich in 1983. In 2009/2010, Jehmlich carried out major maintenance. The original wind supply has been reconstructed and all pipework has been cleaned. On June 24, 2010 the organ was put back into use with a concert by dom organist Albrecht Koch.
