- The organ of the Sankt Peterskirche in Basel is a very remarkable instrument. It was originally built in 1770 by Johann Andreas Silbermann for the Theodorskirche in Basel. The organ had three manuals and a pedal with thirty stops. This historical organ was demolished in 1916. The positive case was removed, but fortunately taken over by a private individual. The main case was sold to Saint Imier. The historical pipework has been largely lost.
- In 1951, both organ cases with the remains of old material were bought by the Basel museum and built up in the Barfüsserkirche. Because the Goll organ from the Peterskirche from 1895 was no longer playable since 1962, it was decided to place the old Silbermann cases in this church and have an organ built by Joseph Neidhart and Georges Lhôte. Under consultancy of Viktor Schlatter, organist of the Grossmünsterkirche in Zurich, the organ was rebuilt in the style of Silbermann.
