Smits bouwde in 1838/1839 een orgel voor de oude kerk van Drunen, die sinds 1820 weer door de katholieken werd gebruikt. Smits plaatste het in 1874 ook over naar de nieuwe kerk. Deze kerk werd gebouwd in neogotische stijl naar ontwerp van Van Tulder. Eind oktober 1944 zijn kerk en orgel door oorlogsgeweld verwoest.
