- Although the builder of this organ is unknown, it is assumed that it is the work of Jean (Jacob) Courtain. The year of construction is estimated between 1750 and 1800. The instrument was placed in Schermerhorn by Leichel in 1879, and was put into use on August 10 of this year.
- Originally, the organ was placed on an rood screen in the choir. Here, however, it stood in front of a beautiful window. To make this window visible again, the organ was moved to a gallery above the entrance to the vestry in 1896.
- In 1970 it was relocated to its current location, on the advice of Monumentenzorg. The Alkmaar firm Vermeulen carried out a restoration in 1977. Willem R. Talsma was the consultant during the works.
