Wilhelm August Schwarz was born on May 4, 1848 in Mundelfingen. He worked as an apprentice to Heinrich Braun. In 1873 he established himself as an independent organ builder in Überlingen near Lake Constance. In 1874, he married the daughter of Braun. He worked until 1875 with Xaver Mönch. After his death on January 20, 1912, the company was continued by his son Friedrich Wilhelm Schwarz.
