Charles Brenton Fisk was an American organ builder who continued to innovate in organ building, although he also was inspired by very old instruments. He was born on February 7, 1925 in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He initially followed a university degree in physics, but in 1950 he decided to become an organ builder. He joined John Swinford, studied organ building with the Holtkamp Company in Cleveland, and became an organ maker in Methuen, Massachusetts in 1955. The company became its property in 1958, and in 1961 he moved to Gloucester, Massachusetts where he became C.B. Fisk, Inc. started. Charles Fisk died after a long period of illness on December 16, 1983. After his death, his widow, Virginia Lee Fisk, continued the business. He is considered one of the most important American organ builders of the twentieth century. He was also one of the first to use mechanical drag drawers in America again.
