Simon Gerrit (Gerard) Hooghuys was born on February 14, 1780 as the son of organ builder Gerard Simon Hooghuys (1754-1813) and Anna Theresia Heijlandt. He established himself as an organ builder in Bruges. He died in his hometown on October 21, 1853. His son Louis Benoît (1822-1885) succeeded him.
