Louis Benoît Hooghuys was born on March 21, 1822 in Bruges. He was the son of Simon Gerrit Hooghuys (1780-1853), organ builder in this city. He was part of the Hooghuys organ building family, which was active between 1809 and 1904. Louis Benoit built organs not only in Flanders, but also in the Rhineland, in the Netherlands and even in Norway. His son Aimé Hooghuys (1858-1904) was the last Hooghuys to build organs. Louis Hooghuys died on April 16, 1885.
