Gerhard Kuhn werd geboren op 27 januari 1943. Hij werkte bij de firma Walcker en daarna bij Scherpf in Speyer en Wehr in Haßloch. Hij legde in 1976 zijn meesterproef af en vestigde zich in 1978 als zelfstandig orgelmaker in Esthal in de Pfalz. De firma is op 30 april 2012 opgeheven.
