Nicholas Thomas Pearce was born in the Cornwall in 1852. He learned the profession of organ maker at the company Eustace Ingram in London. In December 1879 he emigrated to New Zealand, where he started a life in Invercargill. In New Zealand he started to work in a different branche, but he also became organ builder. In 1901 his first instrument was completed. Around 1905-1906 he moved his workplace to Christchurch.
