Leonhard Gottlieb Leuw (also known as Leo or Löw(e)) was born in Augsburg on the first of March, 1678. Het was a son of Christoph Löw (Leo), who worked in the Allgäu as maker of musical instruments, an who also built some important organ works. His elder brother Christoph (der Jüngere), who lived from 1675 until 1749 also became organ maker. He died on May 9, 1754 in the Zisterzienserinnen cloyster Friedensweiler.
