Konrad Maerz, born in 1768 in Haimburg/Opf. started an independent organ building in Munich in 1796. He previously worked for the organ builders König and Bayr. His son Max (Munich 1812 - Munich, April 28, 1879) also came to work in the company and took over in 1844. Konrad died in 1846. The company grew rapidly after this. After Max's death, the company was continued by his adoptive son Franz Borgias Nothwinkler (Munich, July 30, 1848 - Munich, February 23, 1910). In 1905 the company was awarded the title of 'Royal Court Organ Builder'. After 1910 the company was led by Albert Schönle. It was closed sometime around 1920.
