Christian (II) Gerhardt was born on January 13, 1889 in Boppard, the son of the organ maker Christian Gerhardt (1858-1937). In 1919 he and his brother took over his father's company under the name Gebrüder Gerhardt. From 1945 he worked under his own name. In 1965 the company was continued by his own son, Heribert (1930-1993). His older brother, also called Christian Gerhardt (Boppard, July 22, 1927 - Boppard, February 14, 1945) passed away very young.
