De firma Michell & Thynne bouwde in de negentiende eeuw een orgel voor Gloucester Palace in South Kensington. Het instrument werd in 1885 overgeplaatst naar Henley-on-Thames, waar het eigendom werd van Mrs. Algernon Bourke. Rond 1955 kocht Maurice Forsyth-Grant het orgel, en gebruikte het als basis voor een veel groter orgel, dat hij bouwde met allerlei materiaal dat hij in de loop van de jaren had kunnen aankopen.
Het orgel is in 1966 overgeplaatst naar een nieuwe woning van Maurice Forsyth-Grant, Hawthorne Lodge in Bracknell. Het is daarbij weer verbouwd.
