- Joseph Binvignat and Lambert Houtappel built an organ for the Sint Michielskerk in Bree in 1779-1780. The instrument had three manuals and a pedal, with a main case and a positive case in the gallery. The organ cases and the rood loft with balustrade were manufactured by Peter Verschueren in 1778-1779. The organ was ready in January 1780, but was not inspected until May 1784. The church's previous organ was sold to the Sint Martinus parish in the nearby village of Beek.
- Major maintenance was carried out by Pieter-Frans van Dinter in 1830. The organ has been repaired, cleaned and tuned. He also raised the pitch. The organ was renovated by Pereboom & Leijser in 1882. They recorded it as new construction, but it was in fact a rebuild of the existing instrument, with major modifications in the stop list.
- After an enlargement of the church building in 1901-1902, the organ was reinstalled. It is not known by which organ builder. It was now placed on the north side of the gallery, with the main case turned 90 degrees. The positive was removed, but it seems that the case was preserved. The organ was demolished in 1942 and a new instrument was built by Jos. Stevens with usage of parts the existing material. The old organ cases have been demolished.
- The company Jos. Stevens built the new organ in the years 1942-1951. The windchest of the Grand Orgue has been reused from the old instrument, as have some ranks. The original plan to also use the old organ case was not implemented. The organ was installed in two parts, on either side of the large window in the west facade of the church nave. The organ was dedicated on March 4, 1951. Flor Peeters played the inauguration concert.
- In 2017-2018, the Schumacher company carried out a reconstruction of Binvignat's instrument, using the still existing historical material. Eight registers from Binvignat & Houtappel are still complete, and three registers contain pipe work from them. Three registers from the organ of Pereboom & Leijser have also been preserved.
