- In 1836 Heinrich Breidenfeld built a new organ for the Domkirche in Trier. It was a 49-stop instrument, set up in a wide organ case on a gallery on the west side of the church. During the construction, about two-thirds of the pipework was taken from older organs: the previous cathedral organ from Trier, the organ from the monastery in Himmerode and the old cathedral organ from Wetzlar. This material was donated to the church by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. The prospect of the organ was designed in Berlin. Professor Antony from Münster was appointed as consultant. In 1870 some modifications were made to the specification. In 1890 a number of registers were deactivated, and a lot were revoiced.
- In 1895 a restoration was urgently needed. At the end of this year the company Gebr. Breidenfeld started with the restoration of the organ. But it was already known at the time that it would be a temporary overhaul. The church building was under restoration, and when this restoration was completed it was decided to have a new organ built.
