In 1738 Johann Elias Schulze built a two-manual organ for the church of Unterwirbach. It was placed on the top gallery on the west side of the church. The organ had a main work, a gallery positive and an independent pedal. The positive was removed in the nineteenth century. In 1876 the firm Carl Lösche worked on the instrument. They may have made this modification. The organ was converted into a single-keyboard organ.
In 2000-2001, Rösel & Hercher restored the organ. The stop list of the instrument has been reconstructed. But the positive organ was not rebuilt.
